This cake made in an air fryer might sound too good to be true! The trickiest bit was finding a cake tin to fit in the air fryer. Top with icing sugar.

36 people made this

IngredientsServes: 4

  • 100g butter, at room temperature
  • 75g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 200g plain flour
  • 1 pinch salt, or to taste
  • 6 tablespoons milk

MethodPrep:10min ›Cook:15min ›Ready in:25min

  1. Preheat an air fryer to 180 C. Grease a small ring cake tin or fluted tin.
  2. Beat butter and sugar together in a bowl using an electric mixer until light and creamy. Add egg and mix until smooth and fluffy. Stir in flour and salt. Add milk and mix thoroughly. Transfer cake mixture into the prepared cake tin; use the back of a spoon to level the surface.
  3. Place the tin in the air fryer basket. Set the timer for 15 minutes. Bake until a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean.
  4. Turn cake out of tin and allow to cool, about 5 minutes.

Cook's Note:

If you don't have an air fryer, this recipe works well in a normal oven. Add 5 minutes to the baking time.

Really easy to make with a nice consistency, but it lacks some flavor. I made it three times, the first as written, and then once with added vanilla and once with almond extract. The latter was the better of the three attempts. Will continue to experiment with it.-02 Feb 2019

It turned out ok. I added a teaspoon of vanilla since I saw no flavoring. While I do have a cake pan for my air fryer, I chose to divide the batter into 3 ramekins and cooked them about 10 minutes instead. They were very brown on top and not brown at all on the bottom. I flipped them out of the ramekins and cooked 5 more minutes to brown the bottoms. The insides were a little gummy. I think if I tweak the amount of time they are cooked , I may be able to get rid of the gumminess. I will be trying again.-26 Oct 2018

25 Easy Air Fryer Desserts

You&rsquove probably made fried chicken and crispy fries, but have you ever tried to make any air fryer desserts?

I know that the air fryer is essentially a way to make certain foods without deep-frying them, and that you might not think about cakes and desserts in that category.

But if you have the right recipe, anything is possible with this appliance!

Air fryers are big, and I know they take up a lot of room on the counter.

So with that in mind, you&rsquoll ideally want to be able to use yours as often as possible.

What better way than to whip up a batch of cookies or some churros? Or how about some sticky monkey bread?

Just be sure you&rsquove wiped out any leftover fries, and then let&rsquos get started on this list of 25 Air Fryer desserts.

For this donut recipe, we want the donut cavity to be about 3 inches in diameter and you want the pan or mold to fit in your air fryer. If you have a basket air fryer, like the Cosori 5.8 Qt, a mold for four 3-inch donuts will work.

I bought a silicone donut mold for six 3-inch donuts and cut it to fit. It is also a good idea to cut a vent in the middle of the mold to help air circulate more evenly in the air fryer. Silicone donut molds are super affordable and easy to cut!

instant read thermometer to be sure. A few moist crumbs on the toothpick is fine, but you don’t want to see batter on it. The internal temperature should be above 160°F.

I like to add an additional 2 minutes of cooking time AFTER I’ve dipped the donuts in butter and the cinnamon sugar mixture. You end up with a delicious, crackly, cinnamon sugar coating!

Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer and donut pan/mold.

Not near enough time. I did 370 for 10 min and was totally raw. Just the edges were done. Put in for another 10 and the top was charred. Just scrapped the top off. Was much better. Maybe 5 min instead of 10. Made my own Sr flour.

Made them again this time A Success. Used by air fryer this time I used my Ninja Foodi I think there is more air flow. The Foodi doesn't have a 370 it has 365 and a 375. I did 360 for about 12 minutes. Crispy around the and a small puddle at the bottom 483 Calories

That is not the recommended temp or time. That is probably the problem.

What kind of pan do I need to bake a cake in the air fryer?

As far as pans go, you can use any oven-safe pan that will fit properly inside your specific air fryer basket. I have a smaller 7-inch springform pan that I bought to fit my Instant Pot, and used it for my cake.

Check out this cake pan on Amazon that is specifically designed to fit inside air fryers and pressure cookers. This would be deep enough to fit more cake batter than my springform pan.

We tried a few different types of crab meat for this recipe. The goal was to make it easy, fast, and tasting great!

Canned crab meat can be pretty runny and while it is cooking turns a little brown. Maybe avoid that for this recipe. If you do use it, be sure to drain the meat fully first.

If you use tub crab meat it has a tendency to be saltier. So leave the salt out of the recipe and cut the Old Bay seasoning in half.

We used fresh claw meat for this recipe. It is perfect and needs no modifications to the recipe.

Healthy Funnel Cakes or Bites Made with Yogurt

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/4 tsps baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup whole milk Greek yogurt (or fat-free)

1. In a large bowl, mix together 3/4 cup of the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Reserve ¼ cup of flour for rolling out the dough. Stir in the yogurt and vanilla. Add a little more flour to make a stiffer dough that is not sticky and forms a ball, if necessary.

2. Coat a clean surface with 2 tablespoons of flour. Place the dough on the surface and spread it out with your hands to flatten. Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of flour over the dough. Roll the dough out until it is even and approximately 1/4inch in thickness.

3. Form into twisted cakes or cut into bites.

3. a) Cakes: With a sharp knife, slice the dough into 1 inch thick strips, approximately 16 to 24 pieces. Loosely twist together 4 strips into random shapes that resemble a funnel cake or a pretzel. Repeat until all the cakes are formed.

3. b) Bites: Cut the dough into 32 equal sized squares.

4. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Lightly spray the basket or crisper plate with vegetable oil. Place as many cakes or bites as will fit in the basket. Lightly spray the tops of the cakes or bites with vegetable oil.

5. Place the basket or plate in the air fryer and cook for 4 minutes. Flip the cakes or bites over and continue to cook for 2 to 4 more minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the cooked funnel cakes or bites to a platter and dust with powdered sugar. Continue doing this until all the cakes or bites are cooked and dusted.

6. Serve while still warm with napkins and enjoy.

Air Fryer Chocolate Cake

Back in 2009 and two years before we bought our first air fryer, we made our son Kyle a chocolate cake for his birthday. He has a nut allergy and a shop bought cake in Portugal is absolutely unthinkable. Every cake they make is made with praline or Nutella.

He was going to be 8 years old and he loved his mums baking so I offered to make him a yummy chocolate cake. It would be loaded with Cadbury’s Buttons as they are his favourite chocolate that is free of nut traces.

Well I got the cake batter together and Dominic loaded it into the oven.

Fast forward to getting it out of the oven and it was burnt. Edible in the middle but the tops and sides were certainly passed the point of a moist chocolate cake.

Kyle still complains about it now.

But it was one of those cheap ovens where the temperature doesn’t work very well, and you are always trying to balance the shelves and get the food cooked properly.

Two years later in the summer of 2011 we made Kyle a birthday cake again for his 10 th birthday. This time it would be cooked in the Philips Air Fryer and it was perfectly cooked and no worries of overcooking.

Since then we have always made cake in the air fryer and today, I wanted to share with you the simplicity of it.

For a bit of fun we are going to be making an air fryer cake for Kyle’s 19 th birthday and then seeing how it compares with the air fryer we have today which is the Philips Air Fryer XL.

How long do you cook a cake in the Air Fryer?

Every air fryer is going to heat differently, I can’t stress that enough with any recipe that you find for an air fryer the times may be off simply due to the heat difference in machines.

I used a Ninja Foodi Air Fryer and found that this cake was best at 35 minutes at 320*F.

I have tested this particular recipe in a variety of machines and so far that seemed to be the golden time for me as far as getting it well done in the middle but also not burning the cake too.
